Po Leung Kuk nurtures potential of children with special educational needs through facilities improvement by Wai Yin Association
(18 January, 2019, Hong Kong) To enable children with special educational needs (SEN) to access necessary professional trainings in their prime time of development between 0-6 years old, the Po Heung Child Development Centre provides early learning and training for children with SEN in North District including speech therapy, physiotherapy, etc., making best use of their golden time for treatment to realise their potential. The Centre is now renamed as “Po Leung Kuk Wai Yin Association Child Development Centre” as a gratitude to the generous donation for facilities improvement from Wai Yin Association. A dedication ceremony officiated by Mr. Tsui Ying Wai, Casper, JP, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare was launched.
Po Leung Kuk Wai Yin Association Child Development Centre provides professional trainings for children with SEN aged 0-6 years old, basic trainings such as attention training, muscle coordination and strengthening exercises; early childhood training activities combined with therapeutic elements, so as to let them enjoy training with fun. In 2018, the Centre has provided training for 128 young children and 19 of them were integrated back into mainstream primary schools. The Centre also values the cooperation with parents by supporting them to accept and take care of their children who have difficulties in learning and development, and offers emotional support through organising programmes like mindfulness-based stress reduction or circle painting arts therapy.
Dr. Margaret W.L. Choi, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, expressed her sincere thanks at the ceremony to the generous donation from Wai Yin Association, equipping the Centre with sufficient resources to provide assessments and trainings for children in need and contribute to their happy childhood. She hoped children with SEN and their parents would see the endless possibilities of life, rediscover the real beauty of themselves, and live a beautiful life.
