Po Leung Kuk 140th Anniversary Carnival Celebrating the New Chapter of Charity Services

(21 October 2018, Hong Kong) To celebrate its 140th service in Hong Kong, “Po Leung Kuk 140th Anniversary Carnival” was held today in its origin in Causeway Bay. Under the theme “Embracing Traditions.Sparking Innovation”, this momentous event featuring with various spectacular booths and performances, presented the multi-faceted charity services of the Kuk, as well as addressed to the public for its dedication to continuing in serving the society.

The Anniversary Carnival was unveiled by The Hon Matthew CHEUNG Kin-chung, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration. Speaking at the kick-off ceremony, Dr Margaret W L CHOI, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, revealed that “1”, “4”, “0” not only mark the 140-year history of PLK services, the numbers also symbolize the core values of the Kuk: “1” represents the Kuk has  upheld one mission since its establishment - “protecting the young and the innocent”; “4” indicates the heartfelt gratitude to the support from all four corners of Hong Kong; while “0” underlines the commitment to zero in on nurturing our next generations to become caring individuals that bring goodness to the community.

The venue was divided into five interactive zones:“Growing Together Zone (同行成長區)”, “Sparking Innovation Zone (躍動創新區)”, “Embracing Traditions Zone (載滿經典區)”, “Kids Fun Zone (幼兒玩樂區)” and “Flea Market Zone (市集區)”, which introduced the full spectrum of the Kuk’s services, including social services, educational services, recreational services, medical and integrated health services, and cultural services.

The Anniversary Carnival attracted around 15,000 people to enjoy this free amazing experience. Over 140 booths and performances featured the innovative STEAM works by students of PLK affiliated schools, parent-child game booths, free Chinese medical consultation, exhibition of PLK history, large-scale attractions such as inflatable slides and bicycles, and a wide range of spectacular performances presented by versatile performers from elderly, teenagers to students of PLK affiliated schools.
