Po Leung Kuk Chinese New Year Reception celebrates the Year of the Pig
(19 February 2019, Hong Kong) Po Leung Kuk held the Chinese New Year Reception today, led by Dr. Margaret W L CHOI, Chairman of
Po Leung Kuk, together with the Board of Directors and Senior Management, to extend their warmest greetings to the public, and wish the Kuk will continue to strengthen liaison and collaboration with various sectors in the community, so as to further develop its charitable work by providing quality services and appropriate support to cater for the needs of the society.
Since its establishment 140 years ago, the Kuk has followed its fine traditions to celebrate the Year of the Pig with media friends at Kwan Ti Hall in the Main Building of the Headquarters. Led by Dr. Margaret W L CHOI, Chairman, Board of Directors and Senior Management performed rituals to pay homage to the patron god Kwan Ti and hosted the roasted pig-cutting ceremony, to ask for the deity’s blessings on the steady development of the Kuk’s services. Afterwards, students from Po Leung Kuk Cheung Poon Mei Yee Kindergarten wore special costumes and brought a joyous and dynamic dance performance to celebrate the festival with the guests.
In her speech, Dr. Margaret W L CHOI, Chairman, reported that the Kuk has achieved remarkable progress in its major services over the past year. For instance, The Po Leung Kuk Lee Shau Kee Youth Oasis – the largest youth hostel of Hong Kong demonstrating the theme of the year “embracing traditions and sparking innovation”, has successfully obtained the funding approval for construction from the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council and the building work will be commenced this year. In the new year, the Kuk will also uphold their commitment in rallying the efforts of all sectors to provide multi-faceted and quality services to cater for the needs of the society.
